Rick Gwilt worked as a lorry driver. In the late Seventies and early Eighties, he lived in the Crescents in Hulme, Manchester, where he was involved in the campaigns of the tentants’ association over repairs and rehousing. He was branch secretary for his trade union and the editor of Voices the national magazine of the Federation of Worker Writers and Community Publishers.
