Greg Wilkinson started off as a journalist, but ended up doing community development work in Partington, Greater Manchester in the Seventies. After setting up Lifetimes, a project chronicling the lives of thirteen working class people, he set up Commonword in 1977 as a way of encouraging working class people to tell their own stories in their own voices.
