Joe had been writing on his own for many years before coming to the workshop through his contact with Voices. He was a poet and a railway guard at Victoria Station, Manchester. Two of his his poetry collections were published by Commonword: ‘Come and Get Me’ in 1979  and ‘Liberation Soldier’ in 1986.
