“Flame is a strong collection of poetry by Asian writers enriched by a power which is for the most part ignored by British society. A diversity of views and styles is clearly reflected here, rendering the generalisations which occur through racism obsolete. How better to learn about a community — whether part of it or not — than to listen to it express itself through as creative and dynamic a medium as poetry?”
Most of the poems were translated from into Urdu from English, with the exception of two pieces by Hasan Shakil Mazhari which were submitted in Urdu to be translated into English.
Writer and translator Alishan Zaidi provided all translations for this collection.
