Samir Chatterjee grew up in a steel township in India. His soul searching took him to a Bengali literature course in Kolkata, cost accountancy in Sheffield, student revolution at the London School of Economics and community development work in Greater Manchester. He attended Commonword’s Identity writing workshop in the 1990s and 2000s.
