“Much in here is written for people who think they dislike poetry, who feel it may be too ‘high-brow’ for the working class…it’s not you know…it is for the working class.”
At the time of publication, the writer was forty-one years old. Wales features prominently in this collection which tells of a rural childhood, rugby, families and neighbours but also of the darker side of working class Welsh life — the Merthyr Rising of 1831, the Aberfan disaster and the decline of coal mining in the region.
