All of the prose, poetry and illustrations in this Commonword-published pamphlet are by women who experienced domestic abuse and their children. This publication was put together with the co-operation of Manchester Women’s Aid, Manchester Refuge and Stockport Refuge. In the introduction, Wendy Whitfield writes: “We didn’t set out to prepare an academic report on the incidence of wife-battering. Neither was it our intention to map out the varying philosophies of workers involved in the refuges. Our business is with the written word, and with helping people to get the stories into print. The story of these women is the one you didn’t hear the other day.”
Clout has contributions from Ann, Amy, Kate, Jean, Julia, Anna, Betty, Kelly, Stella, Kathy and Christine with illustrations by their children. Names may have been changed and no any autobiographical information has been to protect cibtruidentities.
