Home Truths Writing by North West Women

Home Truths was Commonword’s first regular writing group for women. This is their first publication. As Wendy Whitfield explains in its introduction, “The contents were edited and illustrated by women, typed up and laid out by them. The reply we want is for more women to realise they can do the same.” Commonword went on to publish collections of work by Ruth Allinson, Ailsa Cox, Wendy Whitfield and Sarah Ward and continued it dedication to publishing the work of women that  mainstream publishing refused to make space for.

This is a collection of poems, short stories and diary extracts in which Joan Batchelor remembers a childhood trip to the circus, Ruth Allinson pays tribute to a departed close friend, Brenda Leather tries to get into the circuitry of androids employed by the council and Doris Sydenham tells a cheerless winter tale.
