A Matter of Fat by Sherry Ashworth

“Of course we all come here to get weighed, and that’s a vital part of your slimming. Without the incentive that the scales provide, you wouldn’t stick to it. But just as important as regularly weighing yourself is weighing your food. Do you know how much that slice of bread that you eat first thing in the morning actually weighs? You should. And that apple you eat after lunch. How much does that weight? a Slim-Plicity apple must only weigh four ounces,  no more, no less. Most apples you buy in supermarkets are more than that. Have a knife at the ready to pare off that extra amount.

A Matter of Fat follows the fortunes of Stella, the leader of ‘Slim-Plicity’, a commercial slimming club, and some of the club members. There’s Helen, a dissatisfied housewife, Sandra, a student of English, Judith, who’s looking for romance, and Maureen, an obsessive overeater. When a ‘Fat Women’s Support Group’ starts up nearby, complications soon follow….
