There are many days
when I am so full of my new life
I could draw the biggest circle
with the tips of my fingers.
And other days
though fewer, thank the Lord (if there is one)
when I feel on the outside of myself
and desperately trying
to return to my inner security.

“I started work on this set of poems in May 1976, whilst I was living through some vivid, almost hallucinatory experiences. The cartoon series was conceived as a visual diary, but it wasn’t until much later that the connection between the poems and cartoons was pointed out to me.”
