Lemn Sissay is a writer, broadcaster, playwright and speaker. He was Commonword’s first development worker for black and Asian writers setting up Cultureword and its workshop Identity. He has written and published a series of books of poetry spanning over twenty five years. His play Something Dark directed by John McGrath has been performed throughout the world. He was the official poet for the 2012 Olympic Games and has been chancellor of the University of Manchester since 2015.
There is only one person named Lemn Sissay in the world. His memoir, My Name Is Why, was published in 2019.
