Rainbows in the Ice Poetry by disabled writers

You disablist bastards!
You only do it so you can cope.
My being disabled occupies so
infinitesimally tiny a part of my waking day,
I can exist for days and scarcely think of it..

from Thoughts of a Cripple, by Sally Convey

This collection of poetry was published at an optimistic time when disabled people in the UK were making themselves visible, occupying the streets and taking direct action, demanding to be treated with dignity and to have their rights recognised by the law. Rainbows in the Ice is Commonword’s second publication of work by disabled people.

If you want evidence that disabled just means differently-abled, this is it’ – Robert Wyatt, singer and musician.
